WestJet will stick with Boeing 737 Max 8

The Boeing 737 Max 8 is a narrow body aircraft series which was produced and designed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of aircraft of the succeeding Boeing 737. In March 2019 this year governments around the world grounded all the Boeing 737 Max passenger airliners because of the two major crashes which killed around 347 people on both flights.

On October 29, 2018, the Lion Air flight 610 crashes into the Java Sea killing 189 passengers and crew and on March 10, 2019, this year the Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 crashed with 157 passengers and crew. Both the aircraft was less than 4 months old and faced some software issues before the crash.
The labor strife, high fuel costs, competition, and the 737 Max flight crashes have resulted in bringing WestJet flight reservations to a downhill path. On 24 April 2019 WestJet airlines chief executive Ed Sims announced that Boeing 737 Max software is re-certified and will be the safest narrow-bodied aircraft in the skies.
Earlier after the crash of 737 Max aircraft, WestJet parked its 13 Max 8 out of its 181 aircraft which affects more than 100,000 WestJet customers. But now they are planning to operate their 45 aircraft in the next five to ten years. WestJet was flying 737 flights since 1996 launch apart from 47 Bombardier Q400 turboprops.

He also told that it will take time for passengers to fly on a 737 Max 8 aircraft after all these technical upgrade and pilot retraining. It is currently his biggest challenge to change public opinion and building confidence in the safety of these aircraft.
